IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Executive Director, Human Resources Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Location: GTA East, Ontario Duration: 6 months Hybrid Our client is seeking an experienced and highly credible HR professional to provide leadership during a significant period of organizational transition and operational transformation. This executive interim mandate requires a seasoned HR leader who can quickly establish credibility, provide strategic guidance to the executive team, and lead a high-performing Human Resources function while the organization navigates change. The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of strategic human resources leadership, labour relations expertise, employee relations experience, and practical operational execution. Working collaboratively with executive leadership, clinical leaders, managers, staff, volunteers, and union representatives, the Interim Executive Director will help stabilize, strengthen, and advance people, culture, and workforce initiatives while ensuring the organization remains focused on delivering exceptional service outcomes. Mandate Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team, the Interim Executive Director, Human Resources will: Provide strategic HR leadership during a period of organizational transformation and change. Assess and strengthen current HR programs, processes, and service delivery models. Lead and mentor a small, dynamic Human Resources team, ensuring continuity of service and employee support. Support executive leaders in workforce planning, organizational design, change management, and talent strategies. Offer practical advice and coaching to leaders on sensitive employee and labour relations matters. Partner closely with clinical leadership teams and volunteer program leaders to support organizational priorities. Ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies. Build confidence and trust across the organization during a period of uncertainty and transition. Key Deliverables Strategic Leadership & Organizational Transformation Act as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing strategic people and culture advice. Support the development and implementation of workforce strategies aligned with organizational transformation objectives. Provide guidance on organizational redesign, role clarity, workforce stabilization, and change management initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and employee engagement across the organization. Ensure HR priorities support broader clinical, operational, and service delivery goals. Labour Relations & Employee Relations Serve as the organization's lead advisor on labour relations matters. Provide expert interpretation and application of collective agreements. Work collaboratively with union representatives to maintain constructive relationships. Lead or support grievance management, investigations, dispute resolution, and labour-management discussions. Coach leaders on performance management, attendance management, accommodation, workplace investigations, and disciplinary matters. Mitigate organizational risk through sound labour and employment practices. Leadership of the Human Resources Function Provide direct leadership and mentorship to a small HR team. Assess team structure, capabilities, and development opportunities. Ensure effective delivery of recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, employee engagement, performance management, and learning initiatives. Review and enhance policies, processes, and service delivery practices to support organizational objectives. Establish clear priorities and accountability measures for the HR function. Stakeholder Engagement Develop strong partnerships with executives, directors, managers, clinical leaders, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders. Act as a trusted advisor while balancing operational realities with strategic organizational objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration, respect, accountability, and service excellence. Ideal Candidate Profile The successful candidate will bring: Significant progressive Human Resources leadership experience, ideally at the Executive Director, or Vice President level. Demonstrated experience leading HR functions through periods of transformation, restructuring, or organizational change. Deep expertise in labour relations and employee relations within unionized environments. Experience working within healthcare, community health, social services, or mission-driven nonprofit organizations strongly preferred. Proven ability to support clinical and operational leaders in complex and highly regulated environments. Strong knowledge of employment legislation, labour law, workforce planning, employee engagement, and organizational development. Exceptional relationship-building, communication, facilitation, and coaching skills. The ability to quickly assess situations, establish credibility, and deliver practical solutions in fast-paced environments. The Ideal Interim Executive This assignment is best suited for a senior HR executive who thrives in periods of change, can quickly build trusted relationships, and is comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution. The successful leader will bring the confidence to address complex workforce challenges, the credibility to influence stakeholders at all levels, and the practical experience required to guide the organization through a critical period of transition while leaving behind a stronger, more sustainable HR function.
